Limit Holdem Starting Hands

Limit Texas Holdem Starting Hands

When you play Limit Holdem instead of No Limit Holdem at PokerStar.net you’ll be able to widen your opening hands up due to the fact that your opponents can’t go all-in on you. In Limit Holdem there is a betting structure that needs to be followed and it allows for players to play more hands and chase more draws. I personally dislike Limit Holdem because of the above fact, but for new players it’s a great way to minimize your losses and maximize your profits while learning how to play the game.

For new players to Poker Stars.net a problem that often arises is the fact that they don’t know what hands they should play and what hands they should fold. Throughout this article we’re going to look at the hands at you should call with and the hands you should raise with. This is obviously an opinion and you can take it for what it is, but you should find that you do fine by following the guidelines listed in this article.

Raising Hands

* Ace/Ace
* King/King
* Queen/Queen
* Jack/Jack
* Ten/Ten
* Ace/King
* Ace/Queen

Calling Hands

* Ace/Jack
* King/Queen
* King/Jack
* Queen/Jack
* Jack/Ten
* Ten/Nine Suited
* Nine/Nine
* Eight/Eight
* Seven/Seven
* Ace/Anything Suited

The above hands are the hands you should be playing in Limit Holdem and your other hands should be folded for the most part. If you can get in on a cheap flop then I would recommend calling with low pocket pairs too see if you can hit a set. If you don’t hit a set on the flop then you can get out of the hand for a cheap amount and it won’t cost you much except for your blind. Low pocket pairs can win sometimes, but the odds of hitting a set aren’t that great and you don’t want to risk too many chips on your low pockets.

Another hand that could be called when the flop is cheap is suited connectors. You have options of getting a straight and a flush, but the only problem is that if your straight or flush is low then you risk getting beat by a higher straight or flush which wouldn’t be good for your bankroll.

When you’re a new player on Poker Star.net you don’t want to be involved in every hand because players will start raising you and calling you a lot more often which isn’t what you want. You want to play tight enough that players don’t always want to call you because it could make you lose a lot of hands you should have won. Poker is a game of odds and if you don’t keep the odds in your favour then you’re going to lose a lot more money then you would expect. You can’t chase draws all the time either, if you do call a hand from the list above and the flop doesn’t hit you then you need to know when it’s time to fold your hand and minimize the loss.
